4 steps to capitalize your iPhone, iPad or iTouch

Physical keyboards have two keys to control capitalization: Shift and Caps Lock. But the iOS (iPhone, iTouch and iPad) keyboards have only the Shift key located down to the left of the screen, right on top of key to call the numeric pad. So how do we control the capitalization?

Let’s start talking about auto-capitalization. The system capitalize automatically in two places:

  1. The first word of a sentence
  2. When you are in the middle of the sentence and you have capitalized a word, if you delete de word and retype it, the system assumes you want to capitalize it again and it does it for you.

What about the Caps Lock? It is disabled by default, but it can be activated. The auto-capitalization can be activated in the same place. Here you have the steps to do it:

  1. Go to the main screen of your iPhone, iTouch or iPad and tap on “Settings”
  2. Then tap on “General”
  3. Now tap on “Keyboard”
  4. In this screen you have several switches. The “Enable Caps Lock” will enable the Caps Lock key. And the “Auto-Capitalization” will disable this functionality if you wish to.

To use the Caps Lock, you have to tap twice on the Shift key. Now this key will show three states:

  1. Dark gray: types lower letters
  2. Light grap: Only the first character of the word will be capitalized
  3. Blue: All is capitalized

I love the iPhone keyboard. And according to GigaOM, there is a lot of people that thinks like me. Do you like the iOS keyboard as much as me? Leave me you comments!

Hi Vinnie. You just need to uncheck the Auto-capitalisation in the keyboard options.
I hope it helps!
