Drive a Smart ED (Electric Drive) with you iPhone

The Smart ED is an electric car coming to market very slowly. Its production is very limited and very few people will be able to get it during the next couple of years. But if you want to see how far you can go with it, you can simulate it with iEV.

You can simulate the Smart ED following instructions:

  1. Open iEV and tap on Configuration, if you still don’t have the app, you can buy it in the App Store.
  2. Tap on “Configuration Level” and select advanced.
  3. Tap on “Car Weight” and move the slider to 844 kg or 1860 lbs.
  4. Tap on “Air Drag Coefficient” and move the slider to 0.38 Cx.
  5. Tap on “Car Area” and move the slider to 2.39 sq. meters or 25.8 sq. feet.

Now tap on “Home”, go to your current car and start driving. After a few days using iEV, you will see your driving profile. How much battery would you need if you drive a Smart ED? Is it less than 16.5 kWh? If it is less, then you will be able to fulfill your movility needs with one of this cars. In my case I consume normaly about 18 kWh, so I will be a little short.
